The Giant Slayer

Joshua has come to the end of his life and now he addresses the people as a great general. He reminds them the great truth that God is the giant slayer. More importantly, the battle belongs to the Lord. He will go before us and fight our battles. Finally, we must ask ourselves, where do we stand? Is God with us or are we following our own inclination trying to defeat the giants by our own hands. Because where you stand will determine how you will lie down. Our fears will rob our sleep but if our lives are hidden in Christ, we have nothing to worry or fear. Scripture: Joshua 23:3-4

The Giant of Greed

Achan is one of the most famous characters in the Old Testament but for all the wrong reasons. We can easily compare him to Judas. Achan's name actually meant, "trouble." What did Achan do that got him his bad reputation? His greed and selfishness. Because of one man’s mistake it brought a costly price to the nation, Israel, and sadly some lives were lost. This giant stood in the way of the people of Israel, and it also cost Achan's life. Scripture: Joshua 7:2-5

The Giant of Inconsistency

As Israel is being led to the banks of the Jordan, this was a monumental moment in their history. For the people there will be no turning back. Joshua is about to start the ascent to conquer Jericho but their level of commitment will be put to the test. Not as a fan but as a follower. Because fans are just enthusiastic admirers, they don't have commitments or sacrifices. Fans are inconsistent but a follower is a person who will go wherever they are lead.  Scripture: Joshua 3:3-4

The Giant of Rejection

Joshua met certain characters along the way to Canaan and the first person he encounters is Rahab. Rahab was known in Jericho as an outsider, a person whose moral compass could not be counted. Because Rahab was a prostitute, a person who had made many wrong choices, despite her past God saw potential in her future. The giant we will see is the giant of rejection. How does Rahab teach this important lesson and what does God do for her that He does for us every day? Scripture: Joshua 3:3-4
